Molyvos op Lesbos,

Mithymna
De villa ligt 1,5 km van Molyvos, ook wel Mithymna genoemd; één van de mooiste stadjes van Griekenland. Al sinds 1965 is het gemeentebestuur zo verstandig geweest strenge voorschriften te hanteren wat betreft bouw en aankleding van de openbare ruimtes. In Molyvos dus geen hoogbouw, beton en neon reclames. Maar uitsluitend natuursteen, houten luiken en sfeervolle terrasjes.

Veel te doen
In de haven wordt door lokale vissersbootjes iedere dag verse vis aangevoerd, die dezelfde dag nog op uw bord belandt bij een van de vele gezellige restaurants. Vanuit de haven slingeren smalle middeleeuwse straatjes, vol met leuke koffietentjes, kunstgaleries en souvenirwinkeltjes, zich stijl omhoog op weg naar de overblijfselen van een fort uit de Byzantijnse tijd. Het fort, dat nu dienst doet als museum en concertlocatie, biedt een prachtig uitzicht over het stadje, de Egeïsche zee en de omliggende heuvels.

Strand
Het strand van Molyvos bestaat uit kiezels. Een mooi zandstrand ligt op ca 5 km. bij de toeristenplaatsjes Petra en Anaxos. De zee is brandschoon en de blauwe vlag is dan ook alom vertegenwoordigd.

Ligging
Molyvos ligt op ca 65 km van de hoofdstad van Lesbos, Mitilini, waar ook de luchthaven is. In het zomerseizoen (april-oktober) zijn er vanuit Amsterdam of Maastricht 2 tot 3 x per week rechtstreekse chartervluchten naar Mitilini.
Vluchtduur ca 3 uur. Daarnaast kan men het hele jaar door het eiland dagelijks per lijndienstvlucht bereiken middels een overstap in Athene.

Molyvos on Lesvos,
one of the most beautiful towns in Greece

Mithymna
The villa is situated 1.5 km from Molyvos, also known as Mytimna, is one of the most beautiful and well preserved villages of Greece. Already in 1965 the local government realised that only strict regulations concerning building permits and decoration of public spaces, could ensure that the unique atmosphere of the village. In Molyvos therefore you will not find massive constructions, concrete or neon lights. Just pure natural stone houses with wooden blinds, flowers, olivetrees and cobble stone roads.

A lot of activity
Every day the local fisherman will return to the harbour with fresh fish. The same night already you can find their catch of the day on your plate in one of the many cosy restaurants. From the harbour, steep mediaeval streets, filled with lovely terraces, artgaleries and souvenirshops, lead up to the remains of a Byzantine castle. The castle is open for public and in summer also used as a location for music and dance performances. From the castle you will have the most astonishing view over the village, the blue Aegean sea and the surrounded hills.

Beaches
The beaches of Molyvos are pebbled. Wide, sandy beaches can be found at the nearby villages of Petra and Anaxos. All around the Island you will find a very clear and clean sea. The blue flag will welcome you at many beaches.

Location
Molyvos is approximately 65 km from the capital of Lesbos, Mitilini, where the airport is.
In the summer season (April-October) there are direct charter flights from Amsterdam or Maastricht to Mitilini two to three times a week. Flight time is approximately 3 hours. In addition, the island can be reached from other countries daily by scheduled service flight throughout the year through a transfer in Athens. Or alternatively Lesbos can be reached by ferrie from Pireus, Athens.
